The Kitchen
This room will see the greatest change!
then . . .
Our first Easter in the new house.
We boiled the eggs in an electric skillet
(yes it can be done!).

almost there . . . . . . . .

Our "new" kitchen. We gain plenty of light from the window we
added on the north wall. The layout is easy to use and flows well
when cooking. The rear door opens into a pantry.

This winter we plan to put in broken ceramic tile on the
counters by the sink and microwave. We will have a maple
cutting board top by the stove.

We now have a HUGE walk in pantry.
This space holds the big freezer. Chuck
designed shelves to hold everything we
need. Plus space for the vacuum, brooms, mops and all!

The dining room area with the
new flooring in place. We added
the north door which opens to the
dog yard, and latter added the
window for more natural light.
The dining area of the kitchen - as it now looks - when you stand in "kitchen" area. It is open and
airy and bright.
This is one of the most used spaces in the house.
We all love it!!

open shelves with plate rails
to the center section.

making progress . . . . . . . .

Late April - We had to remove the dining room floor because of damage done by old floor coverings which
made in impossible to sand and refinish. This gave us
a chance to level it and put more supports in.

They then put in a new sub-floor before laying
a laminate floor that will be easier to upkeep then
wood in a dining area.

this would become a built in sideboard in the
dining room section of the the kitchen.
Chuck has already got the paneling up that
will make the rear wall.

The paneling is up, as are the upper cabinets and wine
rack for the sideboard. Matt is working on setting the
lower ones. (Never let it be said he doesn't really get
into his work!)
Since there will be no addition
to the north side of the house
we decided to add a door that
will open onto a deck and into
the dog's yard.

Sara Berks is busy shoveling trash
- an unending job whenever you
want to do anything outdoors.

light it brings into the kitchen!

from the outside.

holes in the kitchen floor that had to be
cut to remove the damaged plumbing
that went to the old kitchen sink.

end of March - the dining room
section of the kitchen is now sheet
rocked. We have left part of the
original chimney showing.
end of March - back half of the kitchen, a big hole
was opened in the floor to get to the broken pipes.
Gail & Sara did not trust the plywood the guys put down
so so we now have a "ramp".

The cabinets were delivered the
Wednesday, after we arrived. They are
now "stored" all over the house as we
work in the kitchen.

They are a soft ivory white but have
a protective blue film on them that peals off.
You should have seen Gail's face when we un-boxed
the first one!!
what was . . . . . . .

The front section of the "old kitchen".
The frost "ghost door" showing on
the wall allowed access to a mobile
home years ago. It was never insulated or finished on the outside. It is easy to locate as it has light leaking under it during the day.
The old kitchen

The old kitchen was split in
two sections by a wall
of cabinets and a doorway.
So you looked through a
window over the sink into
the other section of the room.
