Developing
our Velveteen Lops These
interesting and challenging lops caught the interest of Sarrah back in
2004, so we have began a limited Velveteen breeding program.
We understand it would be a huge and difficult task, that would not be
accomplished in a short time. When the first presentation rights for the
Lionhead breed fell to Gail it was sadly decided that the Velveteens would
stay behind us in Minnesota with our good friends
Jennifer and Matt Laganier when we moved to Kansas - March 2008. After
3 years of working with the breed it was a hard choice for Sarrah.
We took with us a handful of Velveteens to be delivered that spring to
buyers. Well one little black buck was not picked up and since he was
the one we loved the best we took him home. Gail allotted cages to Velveteen
Lops in her new rabbitry floor plan and Cimmaron Superglue
seemed stuck on us. We contacted Jennifer in Minnesota and picked up a
lovely little doe we had left behind with her. and have slowly rebuilt
our small Velevetten herd.
We plan to work mostly with the solid version hoping that Mary Crawford
will manage to pass the breed this time and soon we can be
showing our Velveteens in Best In Show Competition on all the shows.
